Devolens has introduced Skills and an MCP Server to support AI-assisted software licensing development and operations.
The new capabilities provide AI agents with two complementary ways to work with Devolens. Skills give AI agents Devolens-specific knowledge for implementing licensing workflows, while the MCP Server allows authorized AI agents to access licensing data and approved operations within a Devolens account.
Together, they provide a way for development and operations teams to use AI with greater context around their licensing environment.
AI coding agents can already help developers implement common software licensing concepts, but general knowledge does not necessarily include the implementation patterns, APIs, and configuration options of a specific licensing platform.
Devolens Skills provide platform-specific documentation and guidance that AI agents can use when implementing workflows such as:
This allows AI agents to work from Devolens-specific information rather than relying solely on general licensing concepts or assumptions.
The Devolens MCP Server provides authorized AI agents with access to licensing data and approved operations within a Devolens account.
This can support workflows such as investigating customer issues, reviewing licensing activity, analyzing usage patterns, and exploring operational and monetization opportunities.
For example, teams can use AI agents to investigate activation issues, review customer and license activity, or identify patterns in product usage.
The MCP Server can also be used to explore broader questions about licensing operations, such as which products generate the most activity, how different licensing models are being used, or which usage patterns may indicate opportunities for different licensing approaches.
MCP access is disabled by default, allowing organizations to explicitly decide whether AI access should be enabled.
Access controls include:
Organizations can therefore determine which information and operations an AI agent can access for a particular workflow. Personal data can also be excluded from being shared when using the Devolens MCP.
Skills and MCP address different parts of working with AI.
Skills help AI understand Devolens.
MCP helps AI work with a specific licensing environment.
Used together, they allow AI agents to combine platform-specific knowledge with real licensing data and approved operations. This can support workflows spanning implementation, investigation, analysis, and ongoing licensing operations.
AI-assisted workflows do not replace existing dashboards, APIs, or engineering decisions. They provide another way for teams to access information and work with their licensing environment.
For more information about supported workflows and security controls, see the Devolens MCP Capability Guide and Devolens Skills Capability Guide.
